Removal Tool Threaded Body for Cummins 250, L-10, & M-11 Copper Sleeves - Essential for Injector Bore Service

The Removal Tool Threaded Body is a crucial, purpose-built component for engine rebuilders tackling the often-challenging task of extracting copper injector sleeves from Cummins 250, L-10, and M-11 series diesel engines. This robust tool body is specifically designed to work in conjunction with a compatible mandrel (sold separately) to form a complete copper sleeve removal tool.

Precision Design for Effective Sleeve Extraction:

This tool body features precision-machined buttress threads at one end, which are engineered to effectively cut into and securely grip the interior of the copper sleeve without damaging the surrounding injector bore. Its design ensures a strong, reliable hold for the extraction process.

How the Copper Sleeve Removal Process Works:

  1. Mandrel Positioning: First, the appropriate mandrel is positioned securely inside the used copper sleeve within the cylinder head.
  2. Tool Body Engagement: The Removal Tool Threaded Body (415-6132-51) then slides over the mandrel and into the old copper sleeve.
  3. Thread Cutting & Gripping: With firm upward pressure, the tool body is carefully turned by hand. This action causes its buttress threads to cut into the copper sleeve. You continue turning until the tool body can no longer be rotated by hand, indicating that the threads have fully engaged and expanded to firmly grip the sleeve.
  4. Hydraulic Press Extraction: At this point, the entire assembly – comprising the mandrel, the gripped copper sleeve, and the tool body – is ready for extraction. A hydraulic press is then required to safely and efficiently press the entire unit out from the cylinder head. This controlled force ensures the sleeve is removed cleanly without causing damage to the injector bore or cylinder head.

Applications:

This specialized threaded tool body is an indispensable addition to any engine rebuild shop or engine rebuilder’s toolkit focused on the maintenance and rebuilding of Cummins 250, L-10, and M-11 engines. It streamlines the copper sleeve replacement process, making it more efficient and less prone to costly damage.
