This Electric Current Level Sensor is a key element of the Auto-Grind system on these flywheel grinder models. Its primary function is to continuously monitor the amount of electrical current (amps) being drawn by the grinding motor. This monitoring is crucial for preventing the grinding motor from being forced too aggressively onto the workpiece during the automated grinding process.

If the amp draw becomes excessively high, indicating that the grinding motor is under significant load, the sensor will trigger a temporary stop in the downward movement of the Auto-Grind gearmotor. This brief pause allows the grinding process to “catch up” and for the amp draw to return to a normal, safer range. Once the current level drops, the Auto-Grind gearmotor is automatically re-engaged, and the grinding process continues.

This cycle of pausing and restarting the feed can occur multiple times during a single grinding operation if the Auto-Grind feature is set to remove material too aggressively. Frequent activation of this safety mechanism can be an indication that the grinding speed control should be reduced to better match the grinder’s material removal capability. It can also signal that the grinding stone has become loaded with material and requires cleaning by dressing the stone.
