After the new stainless steel sleeve is seated in the bore, the expander is driven through the lower (combustion‑chamber) end of the sleeve to flare the nose and lock it firmly into the casting.

1. Assemble the tools

   • Attach the tip expander to the tip expander driver.

2. Lubricate the expander

   • Apply Permatex anti‑seize lubricant to the expander to reduce friction and prevent damage as it passes through the sleeve.

3. Position at the sleeve nose

   • From the injector‑bore side of the head, position the expander at the nose of the installed injector sleeve.

4. Drive the expander through

   • Using a hammer on the driver, push the expander through the small opening at the combustion‑chamber end of the sleeve.
   • As it passes through, the tapered profile expands the lower tip of the sleeve outward into firm contact with the machined seat in the head.

5. Remove the expander

   • From the combustion‑face side of the cylinder head, remove the tip expander and withdraw the driver from the sleeve.
